SPEAKING AND MENTORING
THE ANIMATED ADVENTURES OF PORTAL 2
Powerpoint presentation (Valve 2012)
Gave a presentation to Tees University School of Computing students during the annual Animex International Festival of Animation and Computer Games at Tees University, England. Talked about animation used in the development, production and testing of the Valve computer game Portal 2. Also attended networking nights talking to students about their studies and giving advice on attaining their goals of working in the game and animation industries.
PUPPETEERING PIXELS TO LIFE (Valve 2012)
Gave a Powerpoint presentation to female high school students that demonstrated how my puppeteering experience lead me to my job at Valve and contributed to my computer animation work. The students from Sealth High School were visiting Valve thanks to IGNITE, an organization that seeks to excite girls in Seattle schools about careers in science, technology, engineering and math. The students found the visit very inspiring.
LABYRINTH PANEL AT SF SKETCHFEST (San Francisco 2011)
Participated in a panel discussion with Brian Henson, Dave Goelz and surprise guest Sheri Weiser (Hoggle body performer) before a screening of Labyrinth at SF Sketchfest 2011, the San Francisco Comedy Festival, moderated by Mythbusters’ Adam Savage
FROM PUPPETS TO PIXELS AND PORTALS (Digipen Redmond 2011)
Gave a puppet performance demonstration and talked about my career at Digipen Institute of Technology in Redmond, near Seattle, which trains students in the technical and artistic skills needed to create programming and content for video games and computer-animated films (2011)

Participated in a panel discussion about Labyrinth with Brian Henson, Dave Goelz, Brian, Wendy and Toby Froud and battle/dance choreographer (and eventual Star Trek: The Next Generation actor) Gates McFadden (2006) Jim Henson Company has podcasts of the event: part 1 & part 2.

Presented a puppet performance demonstration and performance workshops for my fellow animators on The Ant Bully feature film
UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON ANIMATION CONSULTATION (Seattle 2000)
Consulted with Barbara Mones and her students in several of her computer animation classes. Visited several times during the development of their 2000 animated short film “Mira and the Wind” from initial pitches through production to final screening. Gave guidance on concept development, priorities, animation principles and production.

Gave a talk accompanied by personal puppets and videos about my TV and film puppet experience
PUPPETEERS OF AMERICA NATIONAL FESTIVAL PERFORMANCE WORKSHOP

Ran two workshops teaching basic TV puppet performance techniques including using a video monitor, eye focus, body language, walking and lip-synch.
PIXAR STUDIOS PUPPET DEMO AND WORKSHOP FOR ANIMATORS

Along with Ultimate Animates founders David Barclay and Mike Quinn, presented a demonstration of puppet performing principles and a performance workshop to animators at the request of Pixar founder Ed Catmull. This lead to my training and employment as a computer animator at Pixar.
