VALVE / SOURCE FILMMAKER
Source Filmmaker is Valve’s new free video creation and editing tool that allows Steam members to create their own movies within the Source game engine’s three-dimensional game environment. Valve has developed and used this tool in-house for years to create many short films tied in with their games. Sourcefilmmaker.com has more info about the tool. There are also tutorial movies. And the Valve developer community has its usual abundance of detailed documentation
VALVE / PORTAL 2 PUZZLE MAKER
Portal 2’s free Puzzle Maker allows Steam community members to make their own Portal 2 test chambers for both single player and co-op, employing ratings and other tools to help players find the best and newest creations. Over 180,000 test chambers have been created by the Portal 2 community! More info at http://www.thinkwithportals.com/ . Teachers can sign up at http://www.teachwithportals.com/ for special access and collaboration that will enable them to use the Portal 2 Puzzle Maker in the classroom to teach science, math and physics.
THE VALVE STORE
The Valve Store has the Space Core T-Shirt I designed for Portal 2 as well as apparel, accessories, posters and other merchandise from all of Valve’s computer games.
VALVE / PORTAL 2
Valve’s highly acclaimed Portal 2 video game is available for Mac, PC, Xbox, Playstation 3 and Valve’s Steam online gaming service.
As in the original Portal, the player uses a Portal device to solve multi-dimensional challenges in treacherous test chambers while trying to escape from the mysterious Aperture Science facility. The new single player and co-op gameplay adds up to an experience that’s 4 times the length of the original game.
Portal 2’s free DLC entitled Peer Review adds a new set of test chambers for co-op bots Atlas and P-Body to play, as well as a mysterious nemesis that threatens GLaDOS’ testing plans.
FINAL HOURS OF PORTAL 2
Geoff Keighley’s Final Hours of Portal 2 interactive ebook about the making of the game is now available for Mac and PC through Steam, as an app for the iPad and as a text version for the Kindle. A fun puppet connection: Geoff grew up in Toronto, Canada, where we shot Fraggle Rock, and as a little boy, actually attended a very rare live performance of the Fraggle characters. So he was especially excited to learn that I was involved with Portal 2.
STEAM
Valve’s online video game distribution service Steam is available for PC, Macintosh and mobile devices. Multiplayer matches can be played across PC, Mac and PS3 platforms. And Steam membership is free! Over 1,100 games are available to be purchased, downloaded and played at www.steampowered.com
